From The Queen's To The King's Army!

Writtren by Albert W

On the 22nd January 1976, I found the Lord Jesus Christ, after I came from a meeting. I heard Rev William McCrea preach on Romans 10:13,
“For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.

That night I got out of bed at 12 o’clock, got down on my knees at the bedside and wept my way to Calvary, and that heavy load fell off my shoulders.

I came from a large family, very large. At an early age I left home, and very soon I was found in the pubs, drinking and smoking and gambling. At an early age I was put out of three tours (in the army)  for drinking and fighting, and I lost two jobs as well.

I used to go to work every morning with a bottle of whiskey in my pocket, before I was saved by God’s Grace. I tried everything to give up smoking and drinking and gambling, and I couldn’t do it. From the night the Lord saved me I never smoked or drank or gambled ever since the Lord  took it all away from me.

What a Saviour.

The Lord led me and my wife to be children’s workers and Sunday School teachers for 28 years. My wife is saved 29 years also.

I did 12 years in the British Army – some very bad troubled spots I was in, but the Lord had His Hand upon me and kept me safe. This was before I was saved. The Lord kept me safe, for He knew one day I was going to be saved through Grace. Psalm 34:6 sums up my testimony:

“This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

All I can say is that if you are not yet saved, “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.    ( Proverbs 27:1)

I know that I can’t be afraid. I know that the Christ Who saved me, in the blackness of my bedroom, has not changed, He is the Same One. The One that held small children, and healed the blind beggars, wept over Jerusalem, fed hungry fishermen by the sea. The One Who Died for sinners at Calvary, He loved me then – and He  is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Neither need you be afraid. It is the Same Lord Jesus Who can be your Friend. He Died for you. You may not be like the rest of us, and you may have lived a decent life, but you need Him as much as we do. All that God requires of you is that you know your need of Christ. You must go to Him, repenting of your sin, and He Promises, “……him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. ( John 6:37)

You too, despite the continuing crisis and trouble in Northern Ireland, can experience the peace I found by faith at Calvary.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  (2nd  Corinthians 5:17 )

And it can happen to you. May God bless you.

“All my sins were laid upon Him, Jesus Bore them on the Tree.
God, Who knew them, laid them on Him,
And believing, I am free.”

“O, come sinner come, salvation is free for all,
This may be the last time you will ever hear the call.”
