What is faith ? You can' t see it - you can't touch it - yet you use it every day !
By faith, when you get into a car, you believe that when you start the engine, it will take you along the road. That's a simple explanation, but I'm sure you can think of many other instances in life where faith is used. Actually, in most areas of life, some sort of faith is used to some sort of degree.
The faith that we talk about in the Bible is best described by the Bible, in Hebrews 11, verse 1:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Matthew Henry puts it this way, in regards to the faith of a Christian: "It is a firm persuasion and expectation that God will perform all that He has Promised to us in Christ;”
Faith is at the centre of everything to do with God.
" But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith then, comes into "operation" when we get saved. We repent of our sins, call on the Lord Jesus to save us, and BY FAITH receive the Lord Jesus as our Saviour.
Some like to put it this way:
Forsaking All I Trust Him
But be careful - it is not our actual faith that saves us - or else that would make it a "work." Read this carefully - it is the Person IN WHOM we place our faith, and the Work He accomplished on the Cross, that saves us.
Have you experienced saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ ?
".........The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17b)
"Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.” (Romans 3:28)
".. always abounding in the work of the Lord..." 1Cor15:58
