What Is Sin ?

What is sin ?

To quote the Westminster Shorter Catechism: "Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, the law of God.

There are basically two types of sin. One is the sin of commission - (ie things that we do, which we ought not to).

Then, there are sins of omission - (ie  things that we ought to  do, but we do not do them).

Sins are not only committed when we actually, physically, commit a sin - but also "the  thought of foolishness is sin. (Proverbs 24:9)

The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:28: " But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Thus, we see, that while the person had not actually committed the physical act of adultery, they had done so already in their heart.

The Bible says , "For the wages of sin is death..... (Romans 6:23a)

But the verse does not finish there !

" ......but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)

Yes, we are sinners. No-one can dispute that fact ! Our sins separate us from God, and will do so eternally if we do  not come by faith to the Lord Jesus Christ in repentance.

Here is the choice then - the wages of sin - or the Gift of God ?
Make the right choice - now !

"There's a way back to God from the dark paths of sin.
There's a door that is open, and you may go in.
At Calvary's Cross is where you begin,
When you come as a sinner to Jesus.
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1st John 1:8)

"But He".... (ie the Lord Jesus)....  "was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
