What Does Being Saved Mean ?

think 9A person is drowning in the cold, icy waves. A lifeboat comes along, and drags them in out of the water, into the boat, back to dry land, and to the warmth and care of a hospital. That person has been saved, or rescued, from drowning.

And so it is with Biblical salvation. A sinner is on the road to hell, having sinned, and continuing to sin, against God. There seems no hope. But the Spirit of God enlightens that man/woman to their sin, and their need of a Saviour. In repentance, this person calls on God to save them, and by faith, they receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour - they place their trust in the finished Work of Christ on the Cross.

And that, is salvation. That person has been saved. Saved from what ? Saved from sin's penalty. Saved from hell, and the Wrath of God.

But they are not only saved to escape hell, but saved to live for the Lord Jesus Christ, and to serve Him. Their life is changed. Their desires are changed. Their destiny is changed.

Salvation is real. It was "bought" at a costly price - the Death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation is of utmost importance. Don't neglect it !

"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation... (Hebrews 2:3)
"Jesus saves ! He still does !
He can make of you someone new, cleanse the sin that was.
Do you hear His Spirit calling ? No more must you be enslaved !
Oh believe it ! Jesus saves !

"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.... (Acts 16:31)
