What Is Grace ?

grace Anyone who has ever gone to Sunday School will, I am sure,  have heard the following definition used to explain the word GRACE:

God's Riches At Christ's Expense

And that is, basically,  what Grace is, in regards to the act of Salvation. (It can also be many other things, for example, the provision of sun and rain by God upon both the godly and ungodly - that is Grace - but we are looking at it in regards to Salvation).

Grace is God's Riches lavished on sinners who deserve only punishment for sin in hell - all done through the Death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.  It is unmerited favour - we did not deserve it.

You cannot earn Grace - or else it would not be Grace ! Just as you cannot earn a gift, or else it would not be a gift !  Think about it  !

Thus, these two thoughts are beautifully brought together in the following verses, (below),  to explain that salvation can not be worked for, nor earned - it is a gift and it is by Grace  !

"For by Grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the Gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound !
That saved a wretch like me !
I once was lost, but now am found -
'Twas blind, but now I see.
